Artist Talk with Will Wilson
Thursday, May 9, 2024 // Reception at 5 PM followed by Artist Talk at 5:30 PM
Wilson will discuss his exploration of the relationship of science, identity, agency, and representation in photography and his ongoing project Critical Indigenous Photographic Exchange (CIPX), which directly addresses cultural misconceptions through use of historical photographic techniques and an emphasis on a reciprocal relationship with the sitters.
In Conversation: Will Wilson opened in the Bair/Northwest Gallery at the Yellowstone Art Museum on February 16, 2024, and will remain open to visitors until June 2. The exhibition features a selection of works from Diné (Navajo) photographer Will Wilson’s ongoing Critical Indigenous Photographic Exchange (CIPX) project in conversation with photographs by Edward Sheriff Curtis (1868-1952) and features 5 Talking Tintypes – an interactive visitor experience.
The exhibition originally premiered at Crystal Bridges of American Art in 2018 and has been touring as an Art Bridges exhibition since Winter 2021. Generous support for this project is provided by Art Bridges. Art Bridges Foundation is the vision of philanthropist and arts patron Alice Walton. The mission of Art Bridges is to expand access to American art in all regions across the United States.
