Gifts to Montana: The Legacy of Miriam Sample

Exhibition dates
July 3, 2008 - October 15, 2008

Opening Reception
Thursday, July 3, 2008, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

"Miriam Sample passed away unexpectedly, as if in mid-stride, during the preparations for this exhibition. We acknowledge her major role in selecting her favorites for the exhibition and express our collective sorrow over losing such a tremendous force in support of the arts."
-Robyn Peterson, Executive Director of the Yellowstone Art Museum.

Since 1985, Miriam Sample has been the leading patron of the Yellowstone Art Museum’s Montana Collection. She has enthusiastically and generously supported acquisitions, publications, exhibitions, and a public service announcement series, “Montana Portraits.” Miriam was equally generous to eleven other art museums in Montana, Idaho, Oregon, and Wyoming. To date, Miriam’s collection for museums numbers well over five hundred works by eighty contemporary artists. With this exhibition of more than fifty works of art, in a vast array of media, we honor her contribution to the arts in Montana.

This exhibition is sponsored by Joseph S. Sample. For more information about the exhibition or opening reception please contact the Museum at (406) 256-6804.
